1 in 3 Nigerians live with a mental health challenge, yet access to care is alarmingly limited. With fewer than 300 psychiatrists available for a population of over 200 million, the ratio stands at just 1 psychiatrist to every 250,000 people. Our research has shown that understanding of mental health remains dangerously low, especially among young people aged 12 to 18 and older adults over 50. This gap in awareness is particularly troubling given how often mental health is mentioned in daily conversation, usually without any real depth or context.

In January 2025, we commenced our journey with children between the ages of 10 and 17 in underserved communities across Nigeria. We provide mental health education sessions led by trained psychologists and psychiatrists, using creativity and play to help children understand and express their emotions in a safe, supported space. During these sessions,we provide them with Positivity kits which include cards filled with positive words and journals created to cultivate healthy processing of emotions and to build positivity.

We never stop at a single meeting with the kids. We follow up with continuous sessions and provide access to professional care for children who need it. Education is the core of everything we do. Through debate competitions, creative challenges, community camps, and advocacy campaigns, we empower young people to speak up, support one another, and change the narrative around mental health in their communities.

We are committed to raising a generation of emotionally aware, mentally resilient individuals. We believe this is the only way healthy change and rebuilding of a new society can be achieved.
